True I normally won't pick up files that old, but you never know. But it's a little scary to think that at some point I have no access to my back ups. that other companies also phase out older versions of files. But I'm now on a mission to figure out how to convert these files! Any idea why they'd open fine in v8 and not in v10?Īnd your point is well-taken. I guess I can just modify it in Quark 8 and export as a pdf to get what I need. I tried exporting it as a project, or just saving it. When I try to open them using Quark 10 on my regular computer, I get the following message: "Bad file format. I AM able to open the old Quark 3 files in Quark 8 on the laptop. I figured all my troubles were over! However, I have a new issue. and discovered Quark 8 is installed on it. After posting yesterday, I remembered I have an old laptop. Thank you all! I appreciate all of your comments. So, if the app has any issues running on Mavericks it shouldn't really affect you that seriously. You aren't (to my knowledge) trying to do production work. All you are trying to do is use it to open old files and resave them. That said, there may be stability issues and bugs. But there are plenty of PCs still running those systems. Microsoft no longer supports Windows 2000, 98, 95 and 3.x. Secondly, just because Quark no longer supports a certain version on a certain OS it doesn't all of a sudden via some arcane magic make that version stop working. It works on both PowerPC and Intel Macs so if your comment about being pretty sure you can't install it on your 10.9.2 Mac is solely because you think that 8.x was PowerPC only, then that would be a wrong assumption. Now, version 8.x was the second version released that was Universal. It's my understanding that XPress 10.x will open version 8 and 9 files, but no earlier. I can't really answer your questions, but I do have something that might help.
